I dug up some Murraya Hedges from a neighbour and planted them in our front garden to create a new hedge. I have been watering them and fertilising them but all the leaves have turned brown and are falling off. I also trimmed it all back, They have been replanted for about 6 weeks now.
Is this normal? Or does it sound like they have died?
If normal - how long do they normally take to thrive again?
When you move plants it is important to treat them carefully to reduce transplant shock. No matter how careful you have been there will always be some leaf drop as the plants discards excess leaves as it copes with it damaged root system. The plants can take a while to grow new roots and too much fertiliser can burn the delicate new roots, so I would stop fertilising for the moment. Check the water content of the soil with your finger to avoid over-watering. I don't know whether they will survive, you will have to be patient. Hopefully now that you have trimmed back the plants you will start to see new growth.
