New growth on photinia tree/hedge is losing colour. This is then spreading to the whole tree and killing it. Trees are in a well drained area and have been established for a long time.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Yellow leaves indicate various problems: possible nitrogen deficiency, maybe water-logged soil or a combination of the two.
When did you last feed your plants? When you feel soil how does it feel?
The pink spots on the leaves suggest a fungal infection, Photinia is very susceptible to fungal attacks especially during a warm and humid summer. Prune the infected leaves, remove any fallen leaves, mulch around the plants (this will keep the fungal spores away from the plant). Spray the remaining leaves with a protective fungicide, like Copper Oxychloride.
Finally, sprinkle a sustained release fertilizer around the base of each plant.
