I have a Meyer lemon in a pot. The tree is approx. 45cm high and has masses of flowers and tiny lemons on it. Someone told me I would need to take most of them off. If so how many and when should I do that? Being new to gardening I would appreciate any help I can get.
Thank you Christine.
Hey Christine, if the tree is still very young e.g. 1-2 years then it may be helpful to remove the smallest fruit in their early stages of growth. This saves the tree energy to reinvest in root growth.
However without human intervention the tree will decide how much fruit it can support and it will naturally reject the others which tend to be the smallest and weakest.
So just keep it watered and fed and let it do it's own thing. Most importantly make sure it is well drained and do not let it dry out. A good layer of mulch on top of the pot will help.
