Hi Gardeners, I want to plant some small/medium Australian native trees in my small garden in Melbourne.
The strip of garden bed is on the northern side of a tall fence (shaded until they outgrow the fence) and sits about 3 meters from our house which is on a slab.
Does anyone have suggestions for native trees that are great for wildlife, can handle the shade, and won't cause my nearby house any problems with wandering roots?
Thanks!
Syzygium can be either a shrub or a tree - Syzygium australis, Syzygium leuhmannii, Syzygium paniculatum or Syzygium smithii (previously Amena smithii) would all do the job for you. All fast growing and good for screens being thick. All nioce foliage especially S. leuhmanni which starts pink and turns green.
